The hot topic now in the news is the cost-of-living increase, as the energy price cap rises by 54%.

The last 18 months to two years have been tough for many households due to the Pandemic, which means finances may be tough for some families right now.

The rising living costs are a concern for many households across the country as it has surged at its highest rate in almost 10 years.

When looking into this I have founds lots of helpful tips online to help with reducing our household expenses, such as:
  • Switch electrical appliances off standby mode
  • Turn off your lights
  • Avoid using a tumble dryer
  • Reduce the amount of time your heating is on
  • Reduce your food shopping bill by meal planning and never shopping hungry!!

What many of us won’t realise is that our water usage at home also contributes to our energy bills and household carbon emissions.

Saving water can reduce your water bill if you are on a meter, reduce your energy use and bills and reduce the impact on the environment and reduce CO2 emissions.

Most of us do not realise the energy that Water Companies need to treat, heat and pump water into our homes.

Did you know that each household in the UK uses on average 345 liters of water each day and about 12% of a typical gas heated household is from heating the water for showers and baths?

Water can be taken for granted, it is a precious resource that with climate change and the more extreme weather that comes with it, our water supply is becoming more and more unpredictable.

Here are some tips on how to save water in your household and save money:
  • Reduce Washing Machine usage and wash at lower temperature, use the ECO setting if it has one, this can save you around £28 per year
  • Reduce dishwasher usage – only switch on once it is full, saving £14 per year
  • Spend less time in the shower – reducing your shower time to 4 minutes can save around £65 a year

Being Water Efficient is so important, and the beauty of Water Efficiency is the change comes from both top and bottom, The Water Industry working to steward our supply and all of us being a bit more conscious about how we use this most precious of resources.
