Mental Health Awareness Week
Today marks the start of Mental health Awareness Week, an opportunity for people to work on their Mental Health.

This year’s theme is loneliness, which over recent years dealing with a pandemic has become more apparent.

Loneliness can not only be the driving force behind Mental Health but can also be a product of Mental Health.

Since the pandemic many more of us are working from home or have adopted Hybrid way of working. This is because some employers have found it more cost effective for employees to be at home.

As human beings we thrive on social interaction, it is fundamental to protecting our Mental Health and can help tackle loneliness.

We understand that people who now work from home on a permanent basis may be struggling without the office buzz and may start to feel lonely, so here are some tips for those of you working from home on how to tackle this:
  •
  • Meet friends for lunch – At least once a week make the time to meet a friend, or family member for a meal. Take a longer lunch break and enjoy. It will make a big difference in your mood and how you feel, therefore creating better productivity, win win.
  •
  • Go for a walk – take the time to leave your desk and get outdoors on your lunch break, get some sunshine and fresh air, this helps to lift the mood, make you feel happier and energizes you. Make this a habit and watch how much better you will start to feel.
  •
  • Work in different locations – If you are starting to feel closed in or bored of working in the same location, pack up your laptop and try working somewhere new for a day, a local café/coffee shop. You will be surrounded by people and activity.
  •
  • Use social media to connect – Use social media positively, to connect with loved ones and keep up to date with them.
  • Make a few calls every day – You don’t have to spend all day on the phone but making a few calls a day is a good way to connect with others, preventing that lonely feeling.
  •
  • Schedule video calls – make the time to use online platforms to have video calls with a colleague, rather than sending emails to catch up after the weekend, why not schedule in an online meeting, seeing a friendly face can tackle that lonely feeling.
  •
  • Take a coffee break in the garden – shake up the day with some fresh air, and a change of scenery. Soak up the sounds of the outdoors.

Don’t let your mental health suffer or your work because you are sat at home feeling alone and isolated from the world, plan to change and create new daily routines. If all else fails maybe use that gym membership you have but don’t use and go at the end of each day.
