National Mental Health Awareness Week 2021: Take a step into Nature.
As we come to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week, with Nature as this year’s theme, here at Finlay Jude we have been looking into how important Nature is for our Mental Health.

Poor Mental Health can cost employers £33-£42 billion a year, and improving Mental Health in the workplace can help in reducing these figures by employers prioritising Mental Health, which helps productivity and improves morale.

During the pandemic Finlay Jude sent two members of staff on a Mental Health First Aid course to support not only the staff in our office, but also to offer support to any of our on-site workers such as our Utilities Workers: Leakage Technicians, Trainee Leakage Technicians, Noise Loggers and Meter Readers, Customer Side Leakage Provers (CSL).

Some of these roles are lone working so we offer our support, if needed, of somebody to talk too. Talking is so important to improve our Mental Health.

Exercise in Nature
One of the other biggest tools proven to improve our Mental Health is exercise.
This does not mean you have to join the gym which we all know can be costly, especially with so many people feeling the pinch during the pandemic, you can exercise for free by stepping outside into Nature.

Some of our workers working within the Water Industry, are usually doing a lot of walking on the job, which benefits them as they are getting their daily dose of fresh air and exercise whilst working.

Those working in an office space are encouraged to take a walk on their lunch break. Studies show that people who take a lunch break are more productive in the afternoon than those that do not leave the desk all day, as it helps to recharge and refocus, so what better way to do this than to step into the outdoors.

We are surrounded by Nature, and usually some lovely walks are not too far away.

Our local reservoirs not only provide Clean drinking water to the public, but they also play such an important part in connecting us with Nature by being surrounded by some beautiful walking trails and wildlife, being in open spaces can help to clear the mind!

So, let us continue to connect with Nature after the Mental Health Awareness week is over and do things that make you feel good.
