Save Water this Summer

Save Water this Summer
Normally at this time of year we have seen more sunshine than we already have, unfortunately it looks like we may be waiting a little longer this year for our summer.

One thing a friend of mine commented on however, was the benefit of so much rain, was not having to water their garden.

One thing at Finlay Jude Associates we are very aware of when the sunshine arrives is how much extra water is used in our households.

Our Leakage Technicians and Noise Loggers work hard daily to help save our clean water, detecting leaks in our pipes and raising jobs to ensure repairs are done quickly and efficiently.

Saving water helps towns and cities to protect themselves against drought.
With the cost of living at an all-time high, saving water can also save you money!!
Here are some top tips to save water this summer while reducing your water bill:

  • Shorter Showers – cutting your shower time down by just 2 minutes can save around 1,750 gallons of water. So, if a family of 4 all cut their shower time down this could save 7,000 gallons of water.

  • Watering the Lawn – did you know that if you water your lawn during the day most of this water evaporates with the heat, causing wasted water. Only water your lawn in the early morning and late evening when there is no sunshine, as this uses far less water.

  • Collect rainwater – as much as we do not want to see the rain during the summer months, let us take advantage of it when it does. Use a large bucket or rainwater barrel in the garden, to collect the rainwater and then use this to water the lawn and plants.

  • Visit the car wash – washing a car at home can use up to 100 gallons of water, whereas commercial car washes may only use 40 gallons of fresh water. This also saves you the job of doing it yourself.

  • Turn off the tap– you can have a beautiful, healthy smile and conserve water at the same time?  While you brush your teeth, turn off the tap to save up to 200 gallons of water per month.

While we all enjoy that sunshine this summer, lets also do our bit, by helping our Water Industry to help save our Clean water.
